Chapter 1
Shinya Shibasaki

Uh huh, there's no doubt about it. You have a cold, Shigure.

Shigure Hakka

A cold...

Shinya Shibasaki

Today's a day off too, so let's just rest today.

Shigure Hakka

No... Today I have to clean, and there's student council work to do. On top of that, there's an exchange with external vendors, so I can't rest.

Shinya Shibasaki

Ah- no leaving bed, I said!

I pushed Shigure back against the bed as he started to sit up.

Shigure Hakka

Shinya...

Shinya Shibasaki

I'm going to stand guard here until you promise you're going to properly rest today.

Shigure Hakka

But--

Shinya Shibasaki

At least in times like these, I'd like you to rely on me.

Shigure Hakka

--

... Thank you.

Shinya Shibasaki

Mm hm! Leave it to me!

So then, what should I do?

...

Shinya Shibasaki

(Shigure's Work for the Day, Item 1: Deliver the cardboard boxes out back to the vendor.)

There's so many... Was Shigure really going to do this by himself?

(So that Shigure will rely on me even when when he doesn't have a cold, I'm going to do this all perfectly!)

(I'll start with the cardboard box in front of me and--)

???

Uwaa!

Shinya Shibasaki

(A voice!? But where did it--)

Minato Ushiwaka

Ahh~ that surprised me. You woke me up so suddenly, heheh

Shinya Shibasaki

Minato-kun! You were napping in a place like this...?

Minato Ushiwaka

Yep. It's really comfy here.

But, I guess you're cleaning here, Shin-chan?

Shinya Shibasaki

(I don't want to get in the way of his nap... But I definitely want to finish everything Shigure's counting on me for, so-)

(-- Ah! That's it!)

Come to think of it, a little bit ago I found this delicious marshmallow shop!

Minato Ushiwaka

Ehh, really!? You have to tell me all about it! Because I'm going to help you clean!

Shinya Shibasaki

(Yes! Looks like he woke up on his own, I'm glad)

Chapter 2
Shinya Shibasaki

(Shigure's Work for the Day, Item 2: the "Hanabusa Yanagi Victims' Support Group" regular meeting.)

Female student

Sobs... And then Hanabusa-senpai said to me, "I'll make you a princess", and I just got caught up in it, we all started swarming and... sobs

Shinya Shibasaki

Mm hm, that sounds sad, and lonely. But, it also sounds like you really love Yanagi-kun. Those feelings, you don't have to deny them.

Female student

Shibasaki-senpai... How is it, my heart feels so much lighter now.

Shinya Shibasaki

I'm glad.

(To think the books I've read on counseling would come in handy for something like this)

We'll end today's session here. We'll contact you about the next meeting over the Shinonome network.

Mikage Asagiri

Good work, Shin-chan.

Shinya Shibasaki

You too, Mikage-kun. Thanks so much for coming.

Mikage Asagiri

He pretty much forced me to join, Hakka-chan. Because the number of girls attending just keeps increasing.

Shinya Shibasaki

Um.. This time, how was I? Was I able to be a proper stand-in for Shigure?

Mikage Asagiri

Hmm.. If Hakka-chan is Ooka Echizen, then you're Prince Shotoku.[1]

Shinya Shibasaki

???

Mikage Asagiri

It's the difference between the Strict Father versus the Nurturant Parent models.[2]

But, you can feel real honesty and earnestness in both approaches, somehow.

Shinya Shibasaki

(In other words... I was able to be a proper substitute for Shigure. Thank goodness.)

(Next is the last task. I'll do my best!)

...

Waking up late at night, Shigure went downstairs to find the figure of his roommate asleep on the couch.

Shigure Hakka

(Ah... The budget statement, it's done.

The calculations are perfect, too.)

He knew from messages Minato and Mikage left while he was sleeping that Shinya had finished the rest of the work as well.

Shinya Shibasaki

Mmm... zzzz.... so you can... rely on me more, Shigure.... zzzz....

Shigure Hakka

... Shinya, I'll be counting on you. Thank you.

  1. Ooka Echizen was a courtroom drama about an Edo period police officer/court judge. Prince Shotoku was an incredibly pious prince who got his own devotional cult.
  2. The references to the parenting models was my own addition, Mikage says "the contrast between a system that disciplines well and a system that cares and purifies". What he said doesn't seem to be a set referential phrase, but it felt more natural to use one.
